Problem Water

Identify Your Water Problem

Click on Your Water Issue for More Information

To improve water with problems other than hard water, various types of material are put into what are called media tanks. The material in the tank is called “media”. Water is directed through the media, which then filters out the problems from the water. When filtering problems from water, it’s a matter of putting the correct type of media into tanks in order to remove the problem.

Blue & Green Stains

These stains can appear on copper fixture, pipes, or in tubs and sinks. If you are seeing these blue or green stains in your house, this build up is caused when the pH of the water is low.The water will dissolve a small amount of the copper plumbing, resulting in a blue green stain when the water evaporates.

Rusty Orange or Brown Stains

These stains can appear in toilets, dishwashers, bath tubs, and sinks. If you are seeing these orange or brown stains in your house, it is generally caused by iron, manganese or a combination of the two. When whites become slightly yellowed over time, this can be the result of hardness, minerals or manganese in the water.

“Rotten Egg” & Sulfer Odors

If a rotten egg smell is coming from water this indicates hydrogen sulfide is present. Hydrogen sulfide is a colorless corrosive gas that resembles odor of rotten eggs. It can occur naturally from deep in the ground or can be produced by sulfate-reducing bacteria.

Chlorine Taste & Odors

Although chlorine in water is essential at the treatment plant and in the water distribution system, it is no longer necessary once the water reaches your home. Thorough chlorine is vital for stopping the spread of disease, its benefits come at a price. Chlorine tastes and smells bad. It dries skin and hair, fades clothes (bleach is made of chlorine) and can dry out the rubber seals in appliances, shortening the lives of appliances.

Remove Sand, Silt, & Particles in Water

Your water could be cloudy from sediment, algae, clay, silt, or particles. These media’s do not work when there is an overwhelming amount of sand or silt involved. Contact your Blue Fountain representative for more specialized solutions to heavy sand problems.
